Just some stuff

I am…

Tired, perpetually. The worst time of the day for me is the 4-7pm block. I usually get a second wind after the kids go to bed, but every day, without fail, the Four O’clock Wall comes along and punches me in the face – repeatedly – for a good three hours.

A worrywart, a bit of a goofball; somewhat foul-mouthed.

In desperate need of a wardrobe overhaul.

Not so afraid of spiders anymore – the little ones, at least. Big ones still freak me out.

Grateful.

I need…

Coffee, first thing.

To stop biting my nails. Easier said than done.

My cat to stop shitting on the floor. Seriously. This is getting ridiculous. We’ve tried so many things and nothing’s helped. I’m really starting to lose patience with the little fucker…but I love him, dammit.

To get the bathroom finished. My fun winter project, the one I claimed wouldn’t take more than a weekend, has stretched well into spring. Progress has been minimal, at best; it still looks like a gas station bathroom, we’re nowhere near being done and now there are a multitude of teeny tiny black ants coming out of a hole in the wall.

Hugs and kisses from my kids. Every day, many times.

To figure out dinner tonight.

I love…

The way grass and dirt look when they’ve been raked.

Listening to Julia speak French.

The way Oliver smells.

The call of a morning dove.

Stargazing on warm summer nights…dreaming of things to come, remembering the past.

How Dave’s face turns purple and he weeps when he laughs really hard.

Getting lost in a good book.

I wish…

The world was a different place.

The rain hadn’t woken me up at 5.30 this morning.

That my brother lived closer to home.

My house cleaned itself.

I had said more to my mother when I had the chance; understood then what I do now.

Dinner would figure itself out.

  2. This is (yet another) very interesting and cool post idea that I may just have to pilfer for my own blog sometime.

    Great post, mamaT.

  3. {hugs}

If it makes you feel better, I think it’s a scientifically provable fact that the 4-7 pm block is THEE worst for moms. You are not alone.

  4. okay, that whole feeling tired between 4 and 7 (7 is soooo bad for me) i totally get too. the kicker though is that i get a second wind after the kids are in bed and i stay up until 11:00, only to have the alarm go off at 5:50 in the morning.

  9. Oh, I know that wall so well. Sometimes, during that window, I just want to run away – eventhough I love them fiercely.

    April 28th, 2008

  10. and I love you. Now, get some sleep.

    April 28th, 2008

  11. I hit that wall everyday too. If I sit down, I’m sunk. I have to just keep swimmming.

I loved this little slice of life post.

you are not alone. That four o’clock hour hits and I turn the damn video on, just to get a sanity break.

  13. Oh, I know about some of this – my cats just started peeing on the floor in the past month (grr!), and our thrid floor has been in demo mode since December. If we don’t have energy to change these things, may we at least have patience to endure them!

    April 28th, 2008

  14. Lovely. Even the part about that cat shitting.

And if you ever get that Wish Genie, send him/her over to me once your done…

  19. A good exercise of self. And the cat. Oh, those damned cats! The stories I could tell you! The pooping though, I don’t know…

  21. Loved reading this peek behind your eyes, Mama.

Don’t know what to say about the cat. But about those ants–lots of people are having that problem right now. Mom and I blogged about ant remedies: http://mama-n-me.blogspot.com/2008/04/ants.html

Hope something you find there helps.

  22. Ugh, I hate the 4-7 time block. I’m always at my worst.

    April 28th, 2008

  23. 4-7 is my witching hour. Or bitching hour as my hubs likes to call it.

And I really wish supper would work itself out all by itself.

    April 28th, 2008

  24. deb

you’re like a reliable sex partner. if you were giving me sex as good as you give me reading fodder, dude, seriously, I’d have asked you to marry about a hundred times over. including a jaw-dropping ring you’d never be able to wear in public because a) it would break your hand from its weight and b) you’d require a coterie of thugs to protect you.

    srsly.

also, on the fingernails thing, jesus fucking h. christ. my kid is starting to do it, too, because of me. i asked him the other day why he was gnawing on his thumb and he goes, “mommy do it.”

    fucking yaaaaay.

    April 28th, 2008

  25. I think I found the most to identify with on your I Wish list. Definately the dinner thing figuring itself out and the house cleaning itself.

    April 28th, 2008

  26. Oh my gosh, I run smack into “the wall of tired” at that time each day too. What is it about that time?

Also get that second wind once boy goes to bed.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a kitchen like The Jetsons did? There dinner did figure itself out. Sigh…

Can it? Can a house really clean itself? Because if there’s even the slightest possibility of that miracle happening, I’m willing to throw my penny into the fountain and wish for it. Because, my house? Oh. My. God. But the ants seem to enjoy it.

    April 29th, 2008

  28. 4-7 is my nemesis too. i think it’s because no matter how calm an afternoon you’ve had – or how crazy – you have to spring back into action with snacks and dinner and baths and bedtime and no one to help with it. except my friend, coffee. i have learned to depend far to heavily on the 3:30 coffee.

    April 29th, 2008

  29. nice odds and ends… loved it.

    April 29th, 2008

  30. I think being perpetually tired is the worst part, it makes much of the other stuff even more difficult to handle. the other day my husband said “hey! you really DO spend all day in the kitchen”. as if that is such a revelation.

    April 29th, 2008

  31. I am scared of food after watching the movie Fast Food Nation.
I need for my youngest daughter to learn how to reason and to start doing yoga.
I love traveling to far away places, breakfast, my Binkywood gossip and seeing how excited my children are to see me after work.
I wish I had a team of people to make life run smoother.

    April 29th, 2008

  32. Well, it’s almost 4pm! Hopefully, today will be different. Let the kids do their own thing, and read a book or something — just this once! ;)

Sorry about your kitty. That SUCKS!

    April 29th, 2008

  33. 4 to 7 indeed does bite and don’t even want to see me before coffee. My gawd I loved reading this – your brain works in the best ways.

    April 29th, 2008

  34. Girl, I’ve got cat excrement advice if you need it. ping me. But wash your hands first.

That and practically everyting else you said could have come out of my mouth had my brain not been competely deflated today. Pftttttt!

    April 29th, 2008

  35. EE

I really loved this. Awesome answers.

And damn…I wish my house cleaned itself too!
