Tidbits

  • Seventy-six comments and counting – I’m still getting book suggestions, and by all means, keep ‘em coming! Thanks to everyone who came out of the woodwork and shared their favourite titles with me. I’ve started My Sister’s Keeper, because Picoult's name came up a few times and I happened to have that book here, but as soon as I have a kid-free moment I’m going to hit a fabulous used bookstore in my hometown. It’s tiny and cramped and stacked from floor to ceiling with books…I have spent many an afternoon there, lost in titles and spines. Thanks to your recommendations my shortlist includes Water for Elephants, The Pillars of the Earth and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
  • Earlier this year I read a book to review for The Parentblogger’s Network, a book that drew me in, gripped me and inspired me. My review is up, along with details on how to win a copy, so check it out.
  • I’m talking about sibling relationships over at Ask Mama T today, specifically sibling relationships when one has a genetic disorder. Great questions, honest answers. It’s worth a look.

And to wind things up, a few sound bytes…courtesy of Oliver:

“When I grow up I want to be a monster!”

“I just peed in my pants. I want to give you a hug.”

“I can’t kiss you, Mummy. Your face is gross.”

“Good morning, balls!”

“Give me a kiss first. Then you can play with my eyes.” ~ Dave, to Oliver

Happy Monday, guys.

  4. You must hug me while I wear urine soaked clothing, but I cannot kiss you if your face is gross.

  9. It doesn’t look like anyone has recommended The Shadow of the Wind. If you have time to listen to this one on tape, the narrator has the most lovely voice.

I suggest you do what I do: Tell everyone you read things like Pema Chodron, Deepak Chopra and the like. Then, proceed to pick up exclusively 1960s paperback British romance novels by Mary Stewart. They are campily delicious. They will make you say, “Hello, balls!”
